Lights in MuPAD and JavaView

Fractal staircase

Overview

The concept of light in MuPAD and JavaView differs in a few points. However, major types of lights are the same, and with some exceptions there is a good match between light types of both systems.

In the enclosed examples I will use three objects: white parametric surface (this is a typical object built out of multiple polygons); white box 2x2x2 with each face represented by a single polygon; and a white sphere with radius 1.

In this section we will investigate: default light parameters, point lights, direction lights, and spot lights.

Default parameters

  1. Comparison of MuPAD and JavaView lights
  2. Default MuPAD light system
  3. Default JavaView lights system
  4. Locations of default lights in both systems
  5. Simple box with default MuPAD lights
  6. Sphere with default MuPAD lights
  7. What is wrong with 'show depth' in JavaView

Point lights

  1. Parametric surface with point lights
  2. Simple box with point lights
  3. Sphere with point lights

Direction lights

  1. Parametric surface with direction lights
  2. Simple box with direction lights
  3. Sphere with direction lights

Spot lights

  1. Parametric surface with spot lights
  2. Simple box with spot lights
  3. Sphere with spot lights
  4. The white wall with three spot lights
